Light of the World International Church hosts the 7th Annual A. Jean Battie Scholarship Fundraising Luncheon during Black History Month.
We have a lot to celebrate this year! The fund has awarded more than $20,000 to local students in its short five-year existence. Our most recent partnerships with Take Stock in Children will allow us to do even more. Our past partnerships with the Sarasota YMCA Achievers and Greatness Beyond Measure Teen Summit will remain intact. The Fund is managed by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and was established in 2012 with an initial $10,000 send from the Battie family.
Your support is indispensable in ensuring our continuation in helping young people pursue their dreams of higher education. Please consider partnering with us to ease their financial burdens so that they can focus on realizing those dreams. Sponsorship & advertising opportunities are listed below.
The luncheon will highlight three local high school seniors sharing essays with a focus on African American History and/or current events related to minority populations. In this way, we honor the memory of Mrs. Battie, who taught in the Sarasota County School System for thirty years, primarily in high minority population schools. She believed it vitally important to celebrate and share the heritage of people of color. Award amounts of $700, $500, and $300 will be presented to the featured students.
Contact Henry "Hank" Battie via phone at 941-313-1125 or email at or PO Box 1594 Sarasota, Florida 34230.
